Sometimes relationships just aren't meant to be.

Opinion - What About Unconventional Couples?

Just because this is from Buzzfeed, don't assume it's a junk article. It makes some good points, although I always feel that the complexities of human relating sometimes must go beyond conventional expectations. In those unique cases, however, both partners need to be equally invested in their exceptionality.

You probably can't have an unconventional genius happily paired up with a person of average intelligence. But sometimes two exceptional people can make their own rules that don't necessarily fit with the "red flag" mentality of the day.

Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, perhaps?

What's really unfortunate is when one average, conventional person demonizes or stigmatizes an exceptional person just for being who they are.

Watch out for those types if you happen to be exceptional and want to do life your way. Part of you probably longs to be just like everyone else. But I think it's healthier to accept who you are and focus on your strong points, accepting that you might always be different from most.

The Evil One

Even worse than being stigmatized by an ordinary person, some exceptional persons take a turn to the dark side. By this, I mean things like transnational crime and espionage.

These people will lie, cheat, and manipulate to make their victims (and sometimes victim-partners) look like bad, stupid or crazy people. Manipulators like this differ from psychopaths in that they know or partly know their behavior is wrong but do it anyhow because they are morally flawed. Any moments of guilt or remorse are overshadowed by a powerful force of evil they have allowed to colonize their personality.

But the good news is that we can usually sniff out the evil geniuses among us by observing their irrationality, duplicity, and arrogance.

As the New Testament puts it, you can judge a tree by its fruit.

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
