Opinion

I love Elton John and his music and wish him the very best, especially now with his current health issues. Elton's music came to me when I was at that critical age—an impressionable kid and junior high school student. And I'll always see figures like him and David Bowie as close seconds to the Beatles. Actually, depending on my mood, I can enjoy Elton or Bowie more than the Beatles. They're all just different.

I must disagree with Elton, however, about legalizing weed. I think on the whole it's okay. People are going to smoke whether it is legal or not. And if it is illegal, grow-ops and crime networks could traffic stuff laced with God-knows-what. That is far more dangerous than government-regulated weed.

Also, everyone is different. Not all weed smokers use marijuana as a launch pad for harder drugs. And different people have different tolerance levels.

Weed is also an effective painkiller for those with chronic illnesses.

Elton had a bad experience with drugs. That doesn't mean everyone who smokes weed does.

I myself don't smoke anything or drink alcohol. But that's me. I can't preach to others how they should make it through the rough spots.
