On April 14, 2025, the Vatican officially dissolved the Sodality of Christian Life (S.C.V.), a lay society founded in the 1970s, following longstanding allegations of abuse, corruption, and misconduct involving its founder, Luis Fernando Figari, and other leaders. Figari, accused of physical, psychological, and sexual violence — including against minors — was expelled in 2024. Pope Francis had closely followed the case, meeting with investigative journalists in late 2024 and signaling the Vatican’s intent to act.
