Wildfires, Summer Slowdown

I wouldn't say I'm taking a break or a holiday, cos things have been busy lately. But I haven't had much time to focus on Earthpages. Whenever I let Earthpages slide for a few days, it's like a sort of empty feeling. I know the blog is online and in need of an update, but I just can't get there. I sort of visualize it lurking in the background of my mind, stuck in neutral.

So I thought I'd at least post this photo, taken last night while walking to the grocery store. In Canada, we have an unprecedented number of wildfires. So much so that for some days, the air quality in Toronto and Montreal was the worst in the world. Even though the smoke is far away, it blows...

One night the moon was so Halloween orange I couldn't believe it. Trying to capture it on my cell didn't work cos the auto-exposure brightened and whitened it up. Last night's photo (a sunset) was taken well after the air quality alerts had been lifted. But in August, we usually have pure blue skies and puffy white clouds. Not this disturbing thermal haze.

It's easy to blame it on climate change but we also have to remember that crime in general has skyrocketed in Canada. So maybe the same types of disturbed souls that are killing people every day are taking delight in lighting some of these fires on purpose. Also, there might be more slothful, careless people in North America these days. You never know. Truth is usually far more complicated than just one or two factors.
