Retro Vibe, Modern Tools: How I'm Remaking a 1990s Track

I've been working on a song I wrote back around 1990. I was back from India and had not yet begun my PhD. I bought a Fostex 4-track (cassette) recorder, which gave me oodles of pleasure, if somewhat mixed results!

Now, some 35 years later, I'm still trying to get the song the way I want it. I'm too lazy to play my Telecaster, so I am using a Telecaster soundfont with MIDI notes.  I just enjoy it, and it's far less hassle than trying to record guitar with my limited gear.

It could be a while before I drop this tune. I have tried before, but never got it right. This time I am taking my time... working hard to get the guitar and bass sounds just the way I want them. "Tamed apocalyptic," one might call it.

The images, however, were whipped up in a flash. I told Gemini I wrote the song around 1990 and suggested it give the image a '90s retro vibe, which it did. Here are the variations Gemini came up with. They're great!

Hopefully, it won't take too long to finish the song. I need to sing, which I don't do very often. So we'll see how that goes!
