Jesus: His Life | Kanopy

I wouldn't call this an excellent series but I wouldn't say it sucks, either. Surprisingly, it appears a bit hidden in the Canadian version of Kanopy, even though it's Christmastime. Instead, we instantly see all the usual goofy Christmas shows - romances, comedies, creepy in-laws, etc.- up front and center.

The angel visits Mary

But Jesus: His Life is there. And it's free.

I'm finding it quite engaging as we get a somewhat balanced perspective.

On the one hand, we hear from those who see the Bible as careful theological "matchmaking." By that I mean, the New Testament writers, whoever they were, wrote and pieced together stories to make the Old and New Testament thematically coherent. Like one grand novel where all the pieces fit. Or more or less fit.

On the other hand, we have Bible scholars who truly believe in the message and don't readily accept that it's just a clever theological patch-up job that ties up loose ends from Old to New Testament.

Myself, I'm not sure where I stand. I'm up on most of the critical literature and thinkers, along with the Catholic and non-Catholic religious views. And I think it's important to hear what they all have to say. However, to claim it's all myth seems a bit mistaken.

Watch and decide for yourself!
